The hilarious horror movie from my childhood is now an assignment for my coaching program, how funny. So rather than stress over this project any longer, I am going to start it here.
Let’s talk about what gremlin messages are. They are often formed in childhood as a way to protect ourselves from feeling embarrassed, ashamed, rejected or hurt. They can limit us from taking chances and living our fullest lives. Gremlin messages work to keep us safe, but can also keep us limited.
Some of my gremlins include:
I am not smart enough.
I am not qualified enough.
I am not deserving of success or happiness.
I am not strong enough.
My brain is dysfunctional.
The last one hits hard. And I believe that this gremlin is trying to protect me from going through severe burnout once again. It’s trying to keep me down and in an easy job where I don’t have to think or put in a lot of effort. It could potentially hold me back by keeping me from pursuing the opportunity in front of me that would be magical, just because my current one didn’t work out all that well.
My brain is dysfunctional. So what?
My gremlin looks like this…
It sees me being lazy on the living room chair, covered in a blanket.
It hears me being told that I just need to apply myself, while feeling a strong internal struggle.
It feels like the one who always gets left behind, because she can’t finish her work on time.
It tells me to stay in the background and let others take the lead.
Because my brain is dysfunctional…
