It’s true…
During the pandemic, I lost touch with one of my favorite pastimes. Watching baseball. The first few months of 2020 brought nothing but screens – everyone for work on Zoom, social engagements on Zoom, conferences on Zoom, lots of TV. I needed to get away. To be honest, starting at the screen to write this right now is even draining to me.
When baseball returned in the summer of 2020, I tried to watch. But with no fans in the stands, it was just boring. There was no energy. It was a recipe for falling asleep. I’m sure the players felt the same. It’s likely how I felt delivering so many presentations and workshops on zoom when I wasn’t sure if anyone was even listening. So, I just kind of lost tough with it all, which really is not like me.
But now it’s different. Now I can feel the energy. My team is incredible and while I wish I had watched consistently throughout the season, I’m glad to be back. I’m also glad to be home because we’ve been given the green light to travel once again and I guess I will be getting back to my old routine of being a road warrior. Hopefully I can do this slowly. We’ll see…
This has been a bit of a wakeup call, one that reminds me that I am alive. The way things are going, if the Sox are on, I have to watch. That means that I need to shut down from work and focus on the game. Even for the games that I can’t watch, I can listen. Listening on the radio is actually quite exciting – and it is a good way to escape from the screen.
I suppose that this is a silver lining of the pandemic. We’ll see how it turns out…
